BRAHM CENTRE PRESENTS: RETRO AGOGO – A DAY OF NOSTALGIA, FUN, AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT

Singapore, 29 June 2024 – Brahm Centre, in collaboration with MacPherson People’s Association/Senior Citizens’ Executive Committee, successfully hosted the “Retro Agogo” event, a vibrant and nostalgic celebration that brought the community together through a series of engaging activities and performances. Held at the MacPherson Community Club, the event exemplified Brahm Centre’s commitment to fostering community spirit and promoting mental well-being through mindfulness and active engagement.

The event kicked off at 11:00 AM with an opening address by Ms. Tin Pei Ling, Advisor to MacPherson Grassroots Organisations. “Our vision is to make MacPherson a place where everyone can live well, ensuring we have enough programs so our seniors can look forward to each new day,” said Ms. Tin. Mr. Noel Cheah, Deputy CEO of the Agency for Integrated Care, also graced the event and commended the organizers, stating, “I want to commend the Brahm Centre management, as well as your entire team, for doing such good work.”

The day was filled with exciting performances, including lively line dances by Brahm Centre’s senior members, a harmonica performance by the acclaimed Eddy Ooi, and a mesmerizing face-changing act by Yang Yubei. Attendees also enjoyed dance segments by the Move Shake Chill group and Xin Zhi Yun Art Troupe, known for their captivating Xinjiang dance performances. The lineup of performances was designed to not only entertain but also to bring back fond memories and encourage intergenerational bonding.

Retro Agogo featured 14 game booths and 3 informative engagement booths by the Silver Generation Office, the SG Digital Office, and Kampung Senang. Attendees indulged in traditional snacks at live stations serving steamed peanuts, muah chee, nuggets, and waffles, all provided by Halal suppliers. Additional highlights included a retro photo booth and a henna booth where guests got creative with intricate designs. Exciting lucky draws were held throughout the event, with attractive prizes won, and participants redeemed gifts at the designated prize redemption booth.

A significant highlight of the event was the enthusiastic participation from corporate volunteers from Apple and Bank of America (BOA), demonstrating their strong commitment to corporate social responsibility. The BOA volunteers, led by their volunteer-in-charge Ms. Jessica Khoo, played a crucial role in managing game booths and ensuring the smooth running of activities. “It was a rewarding experience for all of us at Bank of America to give back to the community. We believe in the importance of being actively involved in initiatives that make a positive impact,” said Ms. Khoo.

The event encouraged active participation and interaction among attendees, with special arrangements for clients on walking aids, wheelchairs, and mobility devices to ensure an inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone. “We were thrilled to bring the Retro Agogo event to life, celebrating the spirit of community and nostalgia,” said Ms. Sharine Boey, Centre Manager for Brahm Centre @ MacPherson. “This event was not only about entertainment but also about fostering connections and promoting mental well-being through joyful and mindful activities.”

Brahm Centre extends its heartfelt thanks to all sponsors, volunteers, performers, and participants who contributed to making this event a success. Special appreciation goes to PA/SCEC, Brace Concepts Pte Ltd, Mondrian Duxton, and Moni Great Vows Lodge for their generous support.
