This introductory workshop is specially curated for anyone interested to learn more about Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program. You will experience a taste of the formal mindfulness practices, and gain an understanding into this 41-year old scientifically tested program for reducing physical and psychological suffering. For many, embarking on a MBSR program helps to increase one’s awareness and facilitate a cultivation of a different relationship to stress, in meeting the demands of everyday lives. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to explore the structure of the course, ask questions and explore if MBSR is right for you. |

1.30PM-3.30PM Mindfulness-Based Techniques for Educators & Parents to Teach Students
Workshop Leader: A/Prof Craig Hassed
In many countries, mindfulness is being widely integrated into educational settings. At Monash University, for example, over 5,000 students and 1,600 staff have mindfulness training on an annual basis. There are some challenges for successfully introducing mindfulness into educational settings or the home environment. Key principles in doing this well will be explored. It is not just about teaching mindfulness meditation but also relates to managing attention in the classroom and teaching students how to cultivate self-awareness and emotional and attention regulation. Important points in teaching mindfulness include modelling mindfulness, engaging the student, guiding mindfulness practices, reflective learning based on experience, and integration into curriculum in a cohesive way. |

Stress is something of us all face, while the phenomena of burnout has been on the rise. It is important that we learn how to manage these conditions. Dr Raveen Shahdadpuri, Program Director at SingHealth Paediatrics Residency as well as alumnus of Harvard’s Macy Institute, Dr Sally Ho, Senior Consultant, SingHealth Polyclinics – Outram and Dr Virginia Lien will lead this workshop on how to reduce stress and burnout. This workshop is targeted at healthcare workers, but is open to all to join. |

This introductory workshop is tailored for individuals who experience challenges with sleep and are exploring non-pharmacological ways to improve their sleep quality. You will explore the territory of insomnia, understand the scientific evidence supporting this approach and be introduced to ways of reducing unwanted wakefulness at night. The workshop features an experiential session of mindfulness practice, with the opportunity to explore the structure of the course, ask questions and understand if MBTI is suitable for you. |
8.00PM-10.00PM Mindful Teaching Techniques For Kids
Workshop Leader: Dr. Chris Willard
Join author, psychologist and consultant Dr. Christopher Willard in this workshop for professionals interested in bringing mindfulness to children. Dr. Willard will be sharing playful practices that can be used by parents, teachers, therapists, and others. We will explore mindfulness through awareness, movement, games, play, and creative activities for all ages. Suited for parents or educators dealing with children aged 0-12. Learning differences, cultural differences, developmental differences, and more all affect how children learn best, and this workshop explores ways to adapt mindfulness, rather than approach with a one-size fits all approach. We will discuss tailoring techniques to a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, executive function challenges, trauma and stress. Different practices will engage different learning styles through arts, sports, games, music, technology and more, for attention spans ranging from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. |

Workshop Leader: Dr. Sara Lazar
In this interactive workshop, Dr Sara Lazar will discuss some of the issues that arise when designing behavioral and neuroscientific studies of mindfulness and other mind-body interventions, including selection of appropriate control conditions, choosing tasks and questionnaires to capture relevant changes, interpretation of results, and conducting MRI scans of meditative states. Participants are encouraged to bring questions! |

We all have pain to reckon with, whether it is physical or emotional in nature. Mindfulness practices can change the way the mind and body respond to pain. This natural way is effective in easing pain with no side adverse effects. At the workshop, you will learn mindful movements, explore attitudes towards pain and mindfulness practices in pain management. |
