Migrant Domestic Worker Visit to DBS Singapore Gallery at the National Gallery

On the 18th of August 2024, as part of Brahm Centre’s OMEGA Programs, our Migrant Domestic Workers (MDW) had the enriching opportunity to visit the DBS Singapore Gallery at the National Gallery. This excursion offered an insightful journey into the heart of Singapore’s cultural and artistic heritage.

The DBS Singapore Gallery, renowned for its extensive collection, features over 300 artworks that beautifully narrate the history of Singapore’s art. This visit was organized with the aim of exploring Singapore’s culture and history through its art, allowing our participants to gain a deeper understanding of the country they now call home.

The gallery tour was particularly impactful for our group, comprising 26 Burmese and 10 Indian participants. They were able to connect with the stories and experiences depicted in the artworks, which reflect Singapore’s vibrant history and diverse cultural landscape.

This visit was more than just a gallery tour—it was an educational experience that fostered cultural appreciation and understanding. Our participants left with a renewed sense of connection to Singapore, having gained valuable insights into the nation’s artistic journey.

We are grateful to DBS and the National Gallery for making this visit possible and look forward to more such opportunities to enrich the lives of our MDW community.
